Welcome to ZINLY! Let us introduce ourselves.
The small but fine blog about breastfeeding, nipple shields and more...
How it all began...
When I had the pleasure of breastfeeding my baby for the first time, I was 32 years old and it was 2011. I hadn't given much thought to breastfeeding and after a few days I was shocked at how, let's say, unpleasant breastfeeding can be. Luckily I had a really great midwife at my side who, after examining my frayed and bloody nipples, pulled a bent and blunt cap out of her magic bag. Her words: "Here, use this and take good care of it. It's really precious, comes from Switzerland and is made in an art studio. If everything is OK again in a few days, just give it back to me." "Wow," I thought to myself, "she's so optimistic..." But dear Bianca was right. After a few days my nipples were no longer sensitive to pain and I was able to breastfeed my daughter for half a year (until it became too much for me and I wanted my body to myself again).
Back then, I didn't know that in 2024 we would be looking back on a 10-year company history. My husband Philipp had the brilliant idea of producing pewter nipple shields for the German market in the Sauerland region. He calls himself a generalist, is actually a master craftsman, but can do pretty much everything - except knitting. 😄 And after another 2 years, the time had finally come and we sent the first pewter nipple shields to our customers. Back then, there were only two suppliers of nipple shields in Germany - silver nipple shields from Italy and us. Today, the market is flooded with suppliers from all over the world - thanks to Amazon.
And what happens next?
In this blog I would like to address my bosom friend community directly. Reporting on the joys and sorrows of breastfeeding... encouraging you to listen to your inner voice, which is unfortunately becoming increasingly difficult to hear in times of Insta & Co. How many supposed experts are there out there who tell you when to do what and how. I always find it really bad that it is often portrayed as if you are doing something wrong when breastfeeding and that is the only reason for the problems. In my world, it is simply the case that nipples are not prepared for a hungry baby suddenly wanting to suckle at any time of the day or night - with a force that is hard to imagine. It is clear that it can become uncomfortable after a few days. But if I know in the moment that there is an aid that works very simply, the situation relaxes immediately. Do you think that sounds just right? Then feel free to follow me
If you have already had experience with nipple shields, I would be happy if you left me a comment. ❤️
Best regards, Katrin
